Explore the natural gas field (Flaming Crater) in Derweze,"The Door to Hell" located in the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan, central Asia. This gate to Hell is worldwide known with different names because the hell stays unknown to humans on earth, like Kara-Kum, Gara Gum (“Black Sand”) or Turkmen Garagum. This 60 metres wide and 20 metres deep burning crater is about 260 kilometres north of Ashgabat nearly halfway by road to Konye-Urgench.
Due to its remote location, transport options to the "The Gate of Hell" and back are limited. The main option available is to arrange a tour with a local agent in Ashgabat. They would take food and supplies along and provide accommodation in a traditional yurt or camping near to the crater.
